Beginnings

Bridgewerks had its humble beginnings in the garage of the founder, David Sauerwald.

Some years ago, Dave made a simple bridge for the family’s LGB model train. He wanted a bridge in his layout traditionally brought out at Thanksgiving and put away at New Years. This 6-foot wooden bridge was the beginning of the business.

Materials changed from wood to aluminum and construction methods, while complicated, provided a bridge that was much more durable. After more than a year of development, the first bridge, the Rosecrans, finally took shape. It was introduced, along with the company, at the 1996 Big Train Show on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Since that time, Bridgewerks has moved from bridge building to building power controllers. Bridgewerks continues to build the Magnum Power Controllers and remote controls.

In late February of 2004, Bridgewerks left California for North Carolina. With more factory space, Dave was able to develop new products and improve production. In July 2016, Dave’s oldest son Mark took over the business and has relocated it to Tacoma Washington. Using Mark’s thirty years of experience as an electrical engineer, he and his wife Sharon will be creating innovative products using new technologies to meet customers’ high standards for excellence and performance while maintaining Dave’s core principles:
